Gutters don't get much attention until they fail. Then you have water pouring down the wall, damp patches, green stains and a soggy flower bed. Good guttering collects the rain from your roof and takes it safely away.

When do you need new gutters?
Repairs are fine for small problems. Sometimes new guttering is better value. Here's when.
- The gutters are cracked, warped or brittle
- The joints keep leaking, even after resealing
- Metal gutters are rusting through
- They sag, or the water won't flow to the downpipe
- They overflow in heavy rain, even when they're clear
- There's damp or green staining on the walls below
- You're having new fascias fitted

Gutter types and materials
Gutters come in different shapes, such as half-round, square and deep-flow. Big roofs and steep roofs shed a lot of water, so they can need wider or deeper gutters. We'll size them to suit your house.
uPVC
The most popular choice. It's light, low maintenance and doesn't rust. You can get it in black, white, brown and grey.
Aluminium
Strong and long-lasting, and it won't rust. Aluminium can be powder-coated in a range of colours. It costs more than uPVC, but it gives a smarter finish.
Cast iron and cast-style
Cast iron is the traditional look for period homes. It's heavy and needs painting. Cast aluminium gives a similar look, and it's lighter and needs less upkeep.
How we fit new guttering
- We look at the roof, the fascias and where the downpipes will run.
- We take off the old gutters and check the fascia board behind them.
- We fit the new gutters on secure brackets, set with a slight fall towards the outlets. That fall is what makes the water flow.
- We fit the downpipes and connect them to your existing drains.
- We check that everything runs freely, then clear up.
If the fascia boards are rotten, we'll tell you. It's best to replace them at the same time.
Common questions
Guttering questions
How long does it take to replace gutters?
Most houses take a day or two. Larger houses, or ones with lots of corners, take longer. We'll give you an estimate with your quote.
Do I need new downpipes too?
Not always. If the existing ones are sound and fit the new gutters, we can reuse them. If they're cracked or worn, it's better to replace them so you don't get leaks at the joins.
Will new gutters stop damp on my walls?
They help a lot if overflowing water is the cause. Damp can also come from other places, such as roof leaks, so we'll tell you if we spot something else.
What colour should I choose?
Black is a popular pick. White suits many homes with white fascias. We'll go through the options with you.
