What counts as a roof emergency?
- Water coming through the ceiling or down the walls
- Tiles or slates blown off in a storm
- A damaged or lifted ridge, hip or verge
- Lead flashing torn away
- A chimney stack that's damaged or leaning
- Gutters or fascias hanging off the house
- A tree branch that's landed on the roof
If anyone is in danger, or a tree has come down on your house, call 999 first.
What to do while you wait for us
A few simple steps can limit the damage.
- Stay off the roof. Wet tiles are slippery and it isn't worth the risk.
- Move furniture and valuables away from the leak.
- Put a bucket or bowl under the drips, and lay towels or plastic sheeting around it.
- If a ceiling is bulging or sagging with water, keep clear of it.
- If water is near lights or sockets, switch the power off at the fuse box. Only do this if you can reach it safely. If you can't, call an electrician.
- Take photos of the damage. Your insurer will want them.
Then give us a ring.
What we do when we arrive
- We check it's safe. We look at the roof and find where the water is getting in.
- We stop the leak. That might mean replacing tiles, sealing a gap or covering the area with a temporary sheet.
- We explain what's next. If it needs a lasting repair, we'll tell you what that involves and give you a clear price. There's no pressure to agree on the spot.
A temporary fix gets you through the night. It shouldn't be left for months. We'll tell you how long it should hold and when to book the proper repair.
Insurance claims
Storm damage is often covered by home insurance. Check your policy and let your insurer know early. We'll take photos and give you a clear account of what we found and what we did. That can help your claim. We can't promise what your insurer will pay. That's between you and them.
Common questions
Emergency Roof Repair questions
How fast can you get to me?
It depends on where you are and how many calls we have. We'll give you an honest time when you ring.
Can you repair the roof properly on the same visit?
Sometimes. Small jobs like replacing a few tiles can often be done straight away. Bigger repairs need materials or dry weather, so we make it safe first and book the rest.
Should I call my insurer first?
It's a good idea to tell them soon after the damage happens. But don't wait for them before you make the roof safe. Most policies expect you to take steps to stop further damage.
