About MJS Roofing
Meet Mark, the roofer behind MJS Roofing
Hi, I’m Mark. I run MJS Roofing, and I’ve never really wanted to do anything else. This page is about who I am, why I started the business and what you can expect if you ask me to look at your roof. I’d rather you knew who’s turning up at your door.
Before and after
What a full re-roof looks like

The early years
How I got into roofing
What hooked me was the craft of it. A good roofer can look at a slope of tiles and see straight away what’s right and what isn’t. I wanted to be able to do that, and I was lucky to learn from people who took the time to show me how to do things properly.
Over the years I’ve worked on tile, slate, flat roofs, lead, chimneys and gutters. I’ve done small repairs and full re-roofs. I’ve been up at 5am after a storm and on a roof in the middle of summer. You pick up a lot that way.
Why MJS Roofing exists
Why I started my own business
I started MJS Roofing because I got tired of seeing jobs done badly. I saw shortcuts that nobody would spot until the first bad winter. I saw customers left with a mess in the garden and no phone call afterwards. I saw people quoted for a whole new roof when a few hours’ work would have done.
It bothered me. I knew there was a better way to do it, and it wasn’t complicated. Turn up when you say you will. Tell people the truth. Do the job properly. Clear up. Answer the phone.
So I did it my way. That’s all MJS Roofing is.
How I run things
- I’ll tell you the truth. If a small repair will do, I’ll say so. I won’t sell you a new roof you don’t need.
- You get a fixed price in writing. You’ll know what you’re paying before I start.
- I turn up when I say I will. If something changes, I’ll call you.
- You’ll deal with me, start to finish.
The standard I work to
What I’m proud of
I’m proud of the bits you can’t see. The lead that’s dressed properly into a wall, so it stays watertight for years. The tiles that are fixed and bedded right. The ridge that runs straight along the top. Most customers will never look that closely, and that’s fine. I will.
My rule is simple. If I wouldn’t put it on my own house, it doesn’t go on yours.
Before I leave a job, I stand back in the road and look at the roof. Every time. If something’s off, I go back up and fix it. It costs me a bit of time. It’s worth it.
I’m also proud of the tidy-up. It might sound like a small thing. But a customer who gets home to a clean driveway and a neat garden knows someone cared.
The work we do
Most things a roof can throw at you
That’s flat roofing, new roofs, tile and slate roofing, emergency repairs, chimney repairs, leadwork and pointing, guttering, gutter repair and cleaning, and fascias and soffits. Big job or small, I take the same care. A few missing tiles matter just as much to the person living underneath them.
Local, and staying that way
One local roofer, one standard
I work in the area I know, and many of my jobs come from recommendations — which is the best compliment I can get. I’d like you to be one of the people who tells a neighbour about us.
If you’ve got a roof that’s leaking, ageing or just worrying you, give me a call. I’m happy to have a look and give you an honest answer.
